Local care, elite expertise
Living and playing in Teton Valley is hard on knees and shoulders — a season-ending ACL tear at Grand Targhee, a meniscus injury on the bike trails, a shoulder dislocation in the backcountry, wear-and-tear from an active outdoor life. Getting elite joint-preservation surgery used to mean traveling to Salt Lake, Denver, or beyond. Now it's available right in Driggs.

ACL, MCL, and meniscus tears from skiing and snowboarding at Targhee and beyond.

Knee and shoulder injuries from mountain biking, climbing, and trail running.

Wear-and-tear, cartilage damage, and joint pain from a life spent outdoors.
The approach
We don't rush to replace or operate. We take time to protect your natural joint whenever possible — so you keep moving, for life.
Reattach torn tissue — meniscus, ligament, and rotator cuff repair that keeps what's yours.
Restore blood flow and healing so injured tissue can recover instead of being removed.
Correct bone and joint imbalances that overload cartilage and cause early wear.
Rebuild cartilage and bone with biologic techniques that extend your joint's life.

Dr. Turkula lives in Teton Valley with his family — he's here for the same reason his patients are: the mountains. A Team Physician for the U.S. Ski & Snowboard Team, he brings elite meniscus, ligament, and cartilage expertise to Driggs, treating the injuries this valley actually produces: ski-season ACL tears, singletrack crashes, and the wear of a life spent working and playing outdoors.
He teaches visiting medical students on annual elective rotations and serves on the Foundation Board of Directors for Teton County Idaho Search and Rescue. His visits run longer than you're used to — you'll leave with clear answers, a plan you understand, and no pressure to operate.
Off the clock you'll find him skiing, mountain biking, fly fishing, hiking, and camping with his wife Janet, children Leif and Juniper, and their two golden retrievers, Walter and Chuck.

EXAMPLE TESTIMONIALS — REPLACE WITH REAL PATIENT STORIES"Tore my ACL at Targhee in January. Dr. Turkula repaired it here in Driggs — no trips to Salt Lake — and I was back on skis for the last weeks of the next season."
"Two other surgeons said meniscus removal. Dr. Turkula repaired it instead and explained exactly why. A year later my knee feels like mine again on every ride."
"Rotator cuff tear from ranch work. He took the time to explain every option, never pushed surgery, and when we did operate, the pricing was exactly what he quoted."
If your plan includes PPO out-of-network benefits, office visits are at no charge to you. Otherwise, the initial visit is a flat $250, and any surgery is quoted transparently, in writing, before you decide. Call us and we'll check your benefits before your first visit.
Not necessarily. Virtual consultations are available for initial visits, imaging reviews, and many follow-ups. When an in-person exam or procedure is needed, the Driggs clinic is about 45 minutes from Jackson — far closer than Salt Lake or Denver.
No. The whole practice is built around joint preservation — repairing and regenerating your natural tissue, and operating only when it's genuinely the best option. Visits run longer so you get clear answers and a plan you understand, with no pressure.
Same-week appointments are typical, and acute injuries (a ski-season ACL or a dislocated shoulder) are prioritized. Call (208) 747-1235 and we'll find the earliest slot — timing matters for repair options.
